Call for Abstracts

The 18th biannual symposium ACUTE LEUKEMIAS (ISALXVIII) will be held from Sunday, March 19 to Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in Munich, Germany. The symposium will be the first hybrid symposium in the history of ACUTE LEUKEMIAS symposia and is planned as an in-person symposium and virtual meeting, thus giving all those who will not be able to participate on-site to join the symposium virtually.

We encourage all colleagues who are interested in these discussions to submit their abstracts to the conference. The Scientific Committee will review them for oral or poster presentation.

NEWLY ADDED Interactive Virtual Poster-Viewing and Discussion Session

To increase the overall attractiveness of the poster session of ISALXVIII for all participants-  whether on-site and online - we are offering additionally to the on-site Poster Viewing and Discussion Session on Monday, March 20, 2023 an interactive virtual Poster Viewing and Discussion Session on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.


We encourage all colleagues who are interested in these discussions to submit their abstracts to the conference. The Scientific Committee will review them for oral or poster presentation.


MONDAY, March 20, 2023: 16:00 – 18:00

MS V (a): ON-SITE Poster Viewing and Discussion Session

Posters will be presented on the Upper Floor of the symposium venue. A cheese and wine tasting is organized, where a great variety of Bavarian cheese will be served.

All poster presenters are expected to participate in MS V (a) to allow all participants and members of the jury to talk to the presenters and have a personal scientific exchange about their poster(s).


TUESDAY, March 21, 2023: 16:00 – 18:00 (NEWLY ADDED)

MS V (b): Additional INTERACTIVE virtual Poster Viewing and Discussion Session for online participants

This virtual additional session will render the possibility for a live and interactive scientific exchange with each poster presenter in a WONDER Rooms Video Conference.


WONDER is a platform that will allow you to have a “live” virtual discussion in an individual breakout room with the poster presenter, just as if you would inter act in-person on-site and will also give the visitors of the virtual poster discussion session the possibility to move around freely and change between all rooms.

All poster presenters are expected to also participate in MS V (b) to allow all online participants to talk to the presenters and have a personal interactive scientific exchange about their poster(s).



Your abstract should cover one of the following topic areas:

  • Leukemic Stem Cells
  • AML – Biology
  • AML – Therapy
  • ALL – Biology
  • ALL – Therapy
  • Pediatric Acute Leukemias
  • Immunotherapy of Acute Leukemias
  • Stem Cell Transplantation
  • Management of Elderly and Frail Patients
  • Supportive Therapy and Quality of Life
  • Leukemia Microenvironment

Abstracts accepted for publication in the symposium proceedings and for presentation in the poster session on Monday, February 21, 2022 (in-person or virtual) are eligible for submission, provided they meet the below eligibility criteria.



Each abstract will be reviewed by at least three independent scientific reviewers according to the following six criteria:

1) background and rationale for study

2) appropriateness of methods

3) presentation of results

4) conclusions and interpretations of results

5) significance and

6) overall clarity


The ISALXVIII organizers are pleased to offer again all accepted poster applicants to be eligible for one of the following awards:

2 Poster Awards (PA):

Each award will be awarded a prize of € 500

3 Best-of-Free-Contributions Awards (BoFCA):

These awards will be granted to young scientists whose abstract has been accepted for presentation in the poster session.

3 Additional Science Awards (ASA):

These 3 awards are offering a complimentary congress registration to all those who are not exempted from the registration fees according to the registration guidelines.


Please Note the Following Changed Initial Conditions for the Submission of ISALXVIII Abstracts as Part of a Hybrid Symposium


All abstracts have to be submitted as follows:


1. By November 29, 2022 (23:59 CET): Your abstract should be received via email (info@acute-leukemias.de) on the official abstract form plus the filled-in and signed SPRINGER Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form.

2. By March 10, 2023(23:59 CET) : After acceptance of your abstract your poster should be additionally received in electronic form to be presented during the virtual interactive WONDER Poster Session.

The electronic form of your poster can be viewed by all virtual participants during the additional virtual “live” and interactive poster session held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 between 16:00 – 18:00.

3. By March 20, 2023 (13:00 CET at the latest) your poster should be mounted for the on-site Poster Session and to give the Poster Committee members the possibility to preview the posters to choose the best posters for the above mentioned awards.

Traditional posters will be hung in the poster hall for those attending on-site in-person. All presenters are being asked for their in-person presence in front of their poster/s in the official on-site poster presentation Main Session V (a), Monday, March 20 between 16:00 and 18:00 h.


Failure to meet the above mentioned deadlines will result in the complete removal of presenting privileges and will appear as “Presentation not Available” in the meeting materials, the on-site and online poster sessions and on the virtual platform.



Notification of acceptance will be received until December 15, 2022.



To be published in Annals of Hematology and be part of the program and poster exhibition, all accepted presenters must be officially registered and have paid their registration fees by December 31, 2022.



ISALXVIII Munich March 19 -22, 2023, welcomes the submission of abstracts which have been previously presented at national, regional or international meetings in the two years preceding the symposium.

Encore abstracts must however clearly be documented and identified as such at the time of submission. To be eligible and accepted, the encore abstract must be updated and include significant additional current data to distinguish itself from the previous presentation/s.

Submission will not be permitted if a manuscript has been published before.



Late-breaking abstracts may be submitted for high quality, new research findings with major impact on clinical practice or the understanding of disease processes. The abstract must not have been previously published in any publication in a peer review setting or presented at a meeting of any other scientific organization prior to ISASLXVIII February 20-23, 2022.

Only abstracts for which no data of evidential value have been available at the time of the last and final abstract submission deadline of Sunday, November 28, 2019 will be considered for late-breaking status.

The late-breaking abstract submission site will open January 1, 2023.

Late-breaking abstract submission deadline is January 8, 2023.

The deadline of January 8, 2023 for late-breaking abstract submissions is under no circumstances to be considered as an extension of the above mentioned submission deadline. 

Late-breaking submitted abstracts that do not meet the above mentioned criteria will not be accepted for poster discussion or oral presentation.



The abstract must include the title, first author (with full contact details), objectives, rationale, methodic procedure and anticipated data. Please see all further details for the abstract in the general abstract guidelines.

The ISALXVIII 2023 Scientific Committee will review all abstracts indicated as late-breaking and first authors will be notified whether the submitted work has been accepted as a late-breaking abstract for the presentation

■ at the ISASLXVIII Poster Presentation and Discussion Session (MS V) and/or

■ as oral presentation in the Prize Giving Ceremony and 3 Best of Free

   Contributions Session (MS IX)



Since the submission deadline for all included contributions in the symposium proceedings is December 15, 2022, accepted late-breaking submitted abstracts cannot be accepted for publication in ANNALS OF HEMATOLOGY.



The presenters of accepted late-breaking abstracts will receive notification and further instructions by end of January 2023.
